If you want to send .pages files to your friend, who doesn't have Apple Pages installed, you have to save them in some other format (PDF, DOC, DOCX), so he can view them in some alternative office suite.
Apple iWork Pages supports export (conversion) of .pages documents to other formats such as DOCX, TXT or PDF.

The pages file extension is also used in the id Tech 6 video gaming engine, used by Doom video game (also known as Doom 4 or Doom 2016), developed by id Software.
This type of .pages file stores data (textures, models, visual) used to generate game map for Doom.
It does not seem to be possible to access this type of *.pages files manually.
Unfortunately, we have no information about possible conversions for these .pages files, it may not even be possible.
